Differences between Binaural Beats and Brainwave Entrainment

In this article we will attempt to explain the differences between binaural beats and brainwave entrainment

Brainwave synchronization or brainwave entrainment refers to any practice aiming at achieving a desired state of mind by making the brainwave frequencies synchronize with an intermittent stimulus. Brainwave entrainment is commonly used in inducing sleep and is generally attempted by using specialized software. It assumes that our brains have the ability to change the leading EEG frequency and follow the frequency of another leading exterior stimulus. A stimulus such as this is usually aural (Example – monaural or binaural beats or isochronic tones).

Simply put, brainwave entrainment helps in slowing down or speeding up your brainwaves’ frequency when you listen to specifically designed audio tunes. Depending on the kind of music you listen to, your brain will sync with it and alter your mental state accordingly. Here, we will look at binaural beats and how they can help deliver far-reaching benefits.

What are Binaural Beats?

Binaural beats are apparent sounds or audible processing artifacts which when perceived regulate certain physical stimuli in your brain. Heinrich Wilhelm Dove discovered the effect in 1839, but it earned a lot of public awareness during the late twentieth century, thanks to the community of alternative medicine claiming that they can help in inducing creativity, relaxation, meditation, and a variety of other mental states desired by people. The difference between frequencies of tones played in each ear determines the brainwaves’ effect. For instance, if a sound of 250 Hz is being played in the right ear with 260 Hz in the left, the frequency of the beat will be 10 Hz.

The human brain emits strong signals filled with energy. ‘Waves’, as they are called, are emitted every second during an individual’s lifetime. These brainwaves’ frequencies vary based on the feelings and thoughts that occur in the minds of people. According to the Law of Attraction, we have the ability to attract whatever we lay our focus on, thus helping you control your emotions, thoughts, and feelings. Listening to a particular type or genre of music can help alter your brainwaves significantly. When you listen to brainwave entrainment – the technology used to scientifically develop auditory tunes, your brain’s electrical activity is stimulated in a manner such that it follows a specific frequency.

Benefits of Brainwave Entrainment

Brainwave entrainment helps in providing relief from anxiety and stress while promoting a relaxed state of mind. It sharpens your focus and Differences between Binaural Beats and Brainwave Entrainmentconcentration, making it ideal for people suffering from ADD. Brainwave synchronization can be induced to make your whole brain function to achieve maximum benefits of thought. Your overall level of IQ can also increase by listening to tunes created by brainwave entrainment as it helps you learn quicker. The quality of sleep you achieve when listening to specifically designed tunes is very high. Brainwave entrainment can increase your levels of productivity even when you haven’t achieved a good night’s sleep.

People who wish to enter a meditative state of mind can do so with relative ease by listening to the right kind of music. Brainwave entrainment helps in boosting your self-confidence and increasing your motivation levels to achieve certain targets. It also enhances intuitive creativity, promotes overall happiness and peace, and broadens your conscience, allowing you to go about daily life with zest and zeal.

The Influence of Binaural Beats on the Brain

When binaural tones or beats are being played through earphones, you will be listening to a couple of frequencies that are slightly different in terms of the pitch. Since the earphones deliver each frequency to either ear independently, your brain responds to them by developing a third frequency – a tone that differentiates between the beats. This third tone helps your brain shift its consciousness, changing your state of mind. Several researches and tests have been carried out to verify the benefits of binaural beats over the past few years. It is clear that they have a strong effect on the mental, emotional, as well as physical health of people. Measured and controlled changes are now easily possible through binaural beats.

Can Anyone Use Brainwave Entrainment and Binaural Beats?

Differences between Binaural Beats and Brainwave EntrainmentScientific studies have proven that brainwave entrainment can significantly affect your brain’s electrical activity. EEG tests have been conducted on many thousand subjects to prove that brainwave entrainment can provide beneficial outcomes. Advancements in the field of neuroscience have boosted the confidence of scientists and provided additional proofs that technology can be used to promote the growth of ‘positive cells.’ While some brainwave entrainment tones can help certain individuals, binaural beats are believed to be less effective. However, scientists say that it is mainly due to the fact that people do not know how to use them properly.

Listening to binaural beats with the expectation of achieving desired results is similar to an endeavor of losing weight. If a proper nutrition plan isn’t followed, your chances of losing weight reduce. Similarly, brainwave entrainment and binaural beats may not work if used in the wrong way. A lot of effort has to be put in to achieve a state of mind where only the music or beats enter your mind, without any external or mental interference. Brainwave entrainment is not recommended for those who suffer from epilepsy, pregnant women, children under 16 years of age or for others who wear a pacemaker.

Brainwave Entrainment and Binaural Beats for a Stronger Mind

Although the benefits of brainwave entrainment and binaural beats are achievable, it is not easy. If every individual could use them and unlock the powers that are deeply buried within their minds, the world would be a much better place. To attain the benefits of these technological and neuroscientific advances, you are required to put in a great amount of mental work so that your mind can be controlled in a manner such that its true potential can be unleashed. Most people who try these techniques don’t give it enough time and hard work, so they complain about null results. Brainwave entrainment and binaural beats, when used properly, can help you gain an advantage over others.

Always remember that the human brain holds infinite power which cannot be taken for granted. If you want to make serious changes to your life and control your mind so as to achieve success in different departments, proper use of brainwave entrainment can help you do just that. The similarities of the two (binaural beats and entrainment), far outweigh the differences between Binaural Beats and Brainwave Entrainment.

  • so Binaural beats actually do work now??

  • Hi Terry, Yes, they do work. Not for all of course. Like anything. Some people don't benefit from them, however many are. My feedback from the "relief of Chronic Pain" has been astounding. Day after day people are writing to me to say it has helped them 🙂

    Cheers from Australia,
